The Charles University Environment Center has opened registrations for the International Spring School on Sustainable Development 2014 to be held in Týnec nad Sázavou on 30th March - 5th April 2014. We invite students of any academic discipline studying at the late-Bachelor or Master level at a Czech non-Prague university to enrol on the course.
Read on for more information or register here.
Date: 30th March - 5th April 2014
Location: Týnec nad Sázavou
Organisers: Charles University Environment Center in cooperation with the Open University of the Netherlands
Credits: 2 ECTS
Learning approach: The spring school will feature plenty of student-centred games, role plays and interactive workshops with a real emphasis on learning while having fun. Key focus will be given to expanding current knowledge on SD in the European context based on student discussions with international experts, as well as development of important SD competences and skills, such as systemic and critical thinking, team working in interdisciplinary and multicultural groups, communication and presentation skills in English, etc.
The indicative programme is as follows:
Day 1: Departure from Prague by bus; arrival in Týnec nad Sázavou. Accommodation, introductions.
Day 2: Welcome, Sustainable Development and e-learning
Day 3: Resources - Sustainable energy and Waste, Climate change and Nature Conservation
Day 4: Sustainable Consumption and Production - Decoupling and Tourism, Water and Food systems
Day 5: One-day fieldtrip - SD aspects in real life
Day 6: Group work on SD, Certificates of completion
Day 7: Departure to Prague by bus
The trip is fully funded for Czech students studying any discipline at a higher education institution outside Prague, including transport, accommodation and meals; a small fully returnable deposit, however, will be charged for all successful applicants. Vegetarian and vegan meals will be available upon request - we will try to accommodate also other special dietary needs (can be indicated in the registration form).
The only requirements for participation are a good knowledge of English and an eagerness to learn more about sustainability. Two (2) ECTS credits will be awarded after successful completion (a certificate of completion will be issued for recognition of credits).
There are a limited number of places available, so it's recommended that students register here sooner rather than later as preference will be given to those who enrol first in combination with the short motivation statement (as part of the registration form).
Registrations are open until 31st January 2014. Final selections will be made in February.
