Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

The Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic incorporates five České Budějovice scientific institutes (entomology, hydrobiology, parasitology, plant molecular biology and soil biology) together with the technical administrative service of the Centre’s offices.

 

The current activities of the Biology Centre’s scientific workers include pedagogical activities, close cooperation with the University of South Bohemia on science and research, the tutoring of students and development of joint premises. The Biology Centre’s laboratories provide scientific education for nearly one hundred doctoral students at the Natural Science Faculty of the University of South Bohemia.

 

The Czech national committee for the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme (CNC MAB) represents the Czech Republic in the organisation of the UNESCO -Man and the Biosphere – MAB international programme. MAB is an inter-governmental programme (linking more than 130 member states of UNESCO) focusing on inter-disciplinary cooperation in studies of mutual pertinence and reaction between man and the environment, and in compiling research results for various levels of users in the sphere of planning and decision-making, and in the field of ecological education.

 

CNC MAB is administered by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and the secretariat of the committee is part of the organisational structure of the Biology Centre.
