European RCE meeting in Kerkrade, the Netherlands

A representative of the Environmental Education Unit of the Charles University Environment Center (CUEC)  – Dr. Dana Kapitulčinová –attended the European RCE (Regional Centre of Expertise) Spring Meeting 2013 in the Netherlands. The meeting was held on 14th – 16 th May 2013 in the Rolduc Abbey near the city of Kerkrade.

The conference was hosted by the RCE Rhine-Meuse and representatives of 18 European RCEs gathered at this event. The gathering started with an informal dinner in Maastricht on 14th May together with participants of the preceding CODES conference also hosted by the RCE Rhine-Meuse in Kerkrade.

On Wednesday 15th May, the RCE meeting featured discussions on the current position of all European RCEs and their interrelationships as well as potential future collaborations. There was specific focus was on the conclusion to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) and expected ESD activities for the period 2015-2025.

On the last day of the meeting – Thursday 17th – discussions were predominantly held on financial possibilities and potential future collaborations between RCE members and associated partners.

Overall, the meeting was very useful in obtaining the most up-to-date information on the current state of European RCEs, as well as in obtaining new contacts for potential future collaboration.
